Oluvil, Sri Lanka – The 17th General Convocation of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) marked a historic milestone with the esteemed presence of His Excellency Khalid bin Hamoud Al-Kahtani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, who delivered the keynote address. Held at the university’s main premises in front of the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language, this prestigious event was attended by senior academic leaders, diplomats, and students, highlighting the growing international recognition of SEUSL as a center of academic excellence. The convocation was graced by Dr. U.L. Abdul Majeed Udumalebbe, Vice Chancellor of SEUSL, who presided over the event. He welcomed the distinguished guests and graduates, emphasizing the university’s commitment to quality education and community development, especially within the Eastern Province. The presence of Mr. Mohamed Rizwan, Secretary to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, further reinforced the strength of bilateral relations and the importance Saudi Arabia places on educational cooperation with Sri Lanka. In his keynote speech, Ambassador Al-Kahtani expressed deep appreciation for the role SEUSL plays in fostering academic and cultural ties in the region. He acknowledged the significance of the Eastern Province as a hub of Islamic learning and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s continued support for educational, health, infrastructure, and humanitarian projects in Sri Lanka. This visit marks the first time a high-ranking Saudi diplomat has participated as the chief guest at a convocation in the Eastern Province, making it a momentous occasion not only for SEUSL but for the entire region. It also symbolizes a deepening of diplomatic and educational collaboration between the two nations. The Ambassador’s visit is particularly meaningful given Saudi Arabia’s historical contributions to the region, including the construction of key infrastructure projects such as the undersea bridge in the Trincomalee District and the proposed Kurinjakkeni Bridge in Kinniya. As SEUSL continues to grow and serve the diverse communities of the Eastern Province, the 17th Convocation will be remembered as a significant step toward strengthening international partnerships and elevating the university’s global standing. கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் இருக்கும் தென்கிழக்கு பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்கு இலங்கைக்கான சவுதி அரேபிய தூதுவரின் விஜயம் முக்கியமானது. கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் முதன்முதலாக இப்படியான ஒரு பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்கு இப்படியான ஒரு தூதுவர் சமூகம் தந்திருப்பது முதல் தடவை. வளைகுடா நாடுகளில் சவுதி அரேபியா மிக முக்கியமான ஒரு நாடு. புனிதமான இரு ஸ்தலங்களும் அமைந்திருக்கக் கூடிய முக்கியமான ஒரு நாடு. அந்த நாட்டின் தூதுவர் ஒரு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் பிரதம அதிதியாக கலந்து சிறப்பிப்பது சவுதி அரேபிய நாடு கலந்து கொள்வதற்கு சமமாகும். அந்த வகையில் இன்றைய இந்த தூதுவரின் விஜயம் கிழக்கு மாகாணத்துக்கு கண்ணியத்தையும் அங்கு அமைந்துள்ள பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்கு மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் கொடுக்கும் என்பதில் சந்தேகம் இல்லை. இலங்கை நாட்டில் சவுதி அரேபியா உதவிகள் மிகவும் முக்கியமானவை. கிழக்கு மாகாணத்தில் திருமலை மாவட்டத்தில் கடலுக்கு அடியில் மிக நீண்ட பாலம் ஒன்றை அமைத்துக் கொடுத்த நாடு சவுதி அரேபியா. அதேபோன்று திருமலை மாவட்டத்தின் கிண்ணியாவில் அமைந்திருக்கக் கூடிய குறிஞ்சாக்கேணிப் பாலத்தைக் கட்டுவதற்கு பூர்வாங்க ஏற்பாடுகள் நடைபெற்றிருக்கின்றன. இலங்கையில் சுகாதாரம், கல்வி, போக்குவரத்து போன்ற விடயங்களில் கவனம் செலுத்தி வரும் சவுதி அரேபியா பல்வேறுபட்ட மனிதாபிமான உதவிகளையும் செய்து வருகிறது என்பதை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. கிழக்கு மாகாணத்திற்கு மேற்கொண்ட விஜயம் அங்கு அமைந்திருக்கின்ற மிகப் பிரமாண்டமான பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் எதிர்காலத்துக்கு முக்கியமானது. பல்கலைக்கழகம் பல்வேறு தேவைகளோடு இருக்கின்றது என்பது உண்மை. அந்தத் தேவைகள் இவரின் வருகையால் நிறைவு செய்யப்படும் என்றால் உண்மையில் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்களும் அந்தப் பல்கலைக்கழக விரிவுரையாளர்களும் மிகவும் சந்தோஷப்படுவார்கள் என்று நான் நினைக்கின்றேன்.
