A Safer Journey for Kinniya Begins Today Today marks an important milestone for the people of Kinniya and surrounding communities, as the new ferry “Gangai” begins its official operations across the Kurinjakerni Lagoon. This moment carries deep meaning for all of us, following the tragic Kinniya ferry accident of November 2021, which claimed eight precious lives, including school children. Their memory will forever remain in our hearts. The new ferry “Gangai”, operated by the Road Development Authority (RDA), has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 45 million as a sideline initiative to the ongoing Saudi funded 1.05 Billion Rupees worth bridge development project. Built as a joint venture between Dolphin Marine (Pvt) Ltd and Edward & Cristy (Pvt) Ltd, the vessel represents a new standard of strength, safety, and reliability — designed with modern engineering and equipped with full life-saving facilities. As Chairman of the District Coordinating Committee for Trincomalee District and Kinniya Division, I take great pride in seeing this long-awaited project come to life, ensuring a safer and more dependable mode of transport for our people. This is not merely an infrastructure project; it is a commitment — to restore confidence, ensure safety, and uphold the dignity of every citizen who crosses these waters. As we move forward, we remember the past with compassion and build the future with purpose — determined to make Trincomalee safer, better connected, and full of opportunity for all. #Gangai #Kinniya #Trincomalee #ArunHemachandra
